Teresa Murray Amato, MD
Chairperson at Northwell HealthTeresa Murray Amato, MD is the Chair of Emergency Medicine at LIJ-Forest Hills Hospital/Northwell Health. Prior to this position, Dr. Amato was the Associate Chair of Emergency Medicine and the Director of the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) at Long Island Jewish Medical Center/Northwell Health. Dr. Amato’s career in health care began when she attended nursing school at Columbia University. After receiving her BSN she worked as an emergency department nurse while studying for her MSN. After completing her graduate nursing education, she worked as a geriatric nurse practitioner while continuing her nursing role in the emergency department. Furthering her education, she attended medical school at Downstate Medical Center and went on to complete a residency in emergency medicine at NYP Cornell/Columbia. She was able to combine her passions for both emergency care and geriatrics by completing a Geriatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at NYP Cornell. After graduation, Dr. Amato spent several years involved in physician and nursing education. Her first position at Northwell was as the Assistant Residency Program director for emergency medicine.
She is currently a member of Northwell Health Physician Partners Board of Governors and sits on the patient experience, physician engagement, wellness and on-boarding committees. She is also the secretary of the Medical Staff Society at LIJ-Forest Hills Hospital.
Dr. Amato has most recently been involved in several out-reach projects including educational programs on opiate abuse and naloxone training for lay persons.
Dr. Amato has published research articles on the use of the CDU to: prevent 30 day readmissions in the elderly, diagnose diabetes and prediabetes in emergency department patients and the elimination of unnecessary admissions in patients with low- risk chest pain. In addition she has presented nationally on novel approaches to ED through-put and has done several speaking engagements focusing on women in leadership and feedback techniques.
Barbara DeMatteo
Director, HR Consulting of Portnoy, Messinger, Pearl & AssociatesBarbara DeMatteo is an accomplished professional whose Human Resources experience spans over 35 years. In supporting businesses in varied industries across the United States, Barbara continually develops her knowledge of federal and state employment regulations, strengths in employee relations, interviewing, training as well as coaching supervisors and managers.
Barbara acts in the capacity of a company's outsourced HR function in providing guidance on the most effective way to handle employee situations and limit liability. Writing and revising employee handbooks, developing meaningful and targeted job descriptions, developing and implementing performance management programs, and nurturing HR professionals through on site mentoring are her strengths.
This comprehensive experience adds credibility to the training programs she develops and delivers to supervisors and managers and allows her to connect with trainees in a realistic and impactful way. Her mission is to develop ‘Managers of Process’ into more valuable ‘Managers of People’.
Barbara’s training and professional certifications include a professional designation from the American Compensation Association. She is a certified DiSC® trainer and she serves on a number of community organization committees.
Terri Coyle Famularo
Vice President Behavioral Health at St. John's Episcopal HospitalTerri Coyle, LCSW is the Vice President of Behavioral Health Services at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital. Prior to this role, Ms. Coyle has held the title of Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services and was the clinical director of the Wellness and Recovery Program. Ms. Coyle also took the behavioral health DSRIP lead for St. John’s. She is responsible for the development and implementation the of very successful Collaborative Care project which introduced behavioral health into the primary care clinics and the Peer Bridger program targeting high utilizers of inpatient behavioral health services. Ms. Coyle has worked in behavioral health in the Rockaways for many years, starting her career in the field working with children at risk of psychiatric admission and their families. She went on to work at the Community Mental Health Center as a family therapist and the as the Supervisor of the Adolescent Dual Diagnosis Program. Most recently, Ms. Coyle presented at the Annual New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services on the introduction of peer services into an inpatient behavioral health setting.
Ms. Coyle received her Bachelor’s Degree from Adelphi University and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University. In addition, she has advanced training in working with patients with complex trauma and in harm reduction methodologies for patients who are dually diagnosed.
Eugene Shea LCSW
Assistant Director, Clinic of Transitional Services of New York, Inc.Eugene Shea is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has many years of experience working with a variety of substance abuse and mental health populations. He has functioned as both a clinician and a manager in Residential, Long Term Care, Clinic, Continuing Day Treatment Program (CDTP) and Personalized Recovery Oriented Services (PROS) settings. In addition to utilizing an array of evidence based practices, he has also developed innovative techniques for engaging individuals and group members in treatment. He is co-author and illustrator of all four volumes in a well-known series of Creative Therapy workbooks.
In 1994 Eugene Shea came to Transitional Services For New York, Inc. (TSINY) as an Assistant Director/MICA Specialist who created a specialized track of services for people who were dually challenged by both substance abuse and mental health conditions. He created TSINY’s weekly peer run Steplink group which was designed to make consumers of mental health services more familiar with, and more comfortable with, twelve step meetings in the greater community. He was a Divisional Director when he left Transitional Services For New York in 2010. Eugene Shea returned to TSINY in 2017 as Assistant Director of the Counseling and Crisis Center, where he continues to engage people in identifying personal motivations for change and practicing effective recovery strategies
Tom Viola
Thomas Viola, the founder of “Pharmacology Declassified”, is a board-certified pharmacist who also serves the professions of dentistry as a clinical educator, professional speaker and published author. Tom is a member of the faculty of 15 dental professional degree programs and has received several awards for outstanding teacher of the year. Tom has presented hundreds of continuing education courses to dental professionals, nationally and internationally, in the areas of oral pharmacology and local anesthesia and is well-known for his regular contributions to several dental professional journals. Through his informative, humorous and engaging live seminars and webinars, Tom has earned his reputation as the go-to specialist for making pharmacology practical and useful for all members of the dental team.
