Sharron Cannon Ph.D. Candidate and Patient Advocate
Sharron Cannon Ph.D. Candidate and Patient Advocate Sharron Cannon’s journey into cannabis started in Hollywood in the 80’s during the disco era, while in college. She was part of the party people, who partied from South Central, “The Shaw District,” up to Hollywood’s Sunset Strip and somewhere in-between was “Jewel’s Catch One,’ the first Black disco in the United States and a long-standing Gay Club that broke down cultural barriers honoring the music, fashion, celebrities, and activism. Together we worked to pass California’s Compassionate Care Act of 1996. It was a love letter to free the flower to be used as a medication to our loved ones who died and/or suffered with wasting syndrome long before the science of the cannabis plant or the naming of the disease we now know as HIV AIDS. Sharron formerly worked for Curaleaf as an “Outreach Coordinator” when she launched, developed, implemented and advanced cannabis education initiatives to increase cannabis and Curaleaf’s visibility in the regent. See more of Sharron’s story in a New York Times article published on June 19, 2020, “How a Cannabis Expert Spends Her Sundays.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/19/nyregion/coronavirus-weed-nyc.html
