Mookie Wilson is a beloved figure in Mets history, known not only for his outstanding contributions on the field but also for his dedicated service to the team off the field. Currently, he is in his 12th season as a club ambassador, continuing to make an impact with the Mets organization. Wilson's connection with the Mets spans several decades, beginning as an outfielder for the team from 1980 to 1989, where he ranked among the franchise's all-time leaders in nearly every offensive category. He is best remembered for his unforgettable moment in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, when a wild pitch and his ground ball that slipped past Boston's Bill Buckner allowed the Mets to score the winning run and force a Game 7, which they would ultimately win.

After his playing career, Wilson remained deeply involved with the Mets. He served as the first base and outfield coach for the team in 1997-2002 and again in 2011. He also had a significant role as a minor league instructor and coordinator, managing the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2005 and Kingsport in the early 2000s. Wilson was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 1996 and was honored as a member of the Mets' 40th Anniversary Team in 2002. His leadership and legacy have also earned him recognition off the field, receiving the Thurman Munson Award in 2022 for his success on the field and his community contributions.

In addition to his baseball career, Wilson's educational background includes a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Mercy College and studies at Spartanburg Junior College and the University of South Carolina. Over the years, Wilson has remained an important figure within the Mets organization, symbolizing not only athletic achievement but also the spirit of dedication and community. His passion for the game and the Mets continues to inspire fans and players alike.
